Amazing Kitchen Respray – Liverpool

Carla's Pea Green Transformation

Sometimes the dream kitchen isn’t a brand new one — it’s the one you already have, finished exactly the way you always imagined it. That was precisely the situation for Carla in Liverpool, whose kitchen had real potential but needed professional expertise to unlock it.

Carla had purchased her kitchen second-hand, a Smallbone of Devizes hand-made kitchen that had been carefully retrofitted to suit her space. It was a smart, cost-conscious decision — good cabinetry at a fraction of the price of buying new. Wanting to personalise it further, Carla’s husband had attempted to hand-paint the cabinets as a surprise for her. And boy was it a surprise as it was completely the wrong shade of green that she dreamed of. The finish was uneven, the colour wasn’t what she wanted, and the kitchen simply wasn’t reflecting the vision she had in her head.

That’s when she got in touch with us.

Starting From Scratch: The Preparation Process

When we arrived to assess the project, it was clear that the existing hand-painted finish couldn’t simply be sprayed over. To achieve a truly professional result — one that would be smooth, durable, and flawless — the cabinets needed to be taken back to a proper base first. That meant meticulous sanding across every surface: every door, every drawer front, every frame and panel, removing the uneven paint and creating the right foundation for a professional spray application.

This preparation stage is unglamorous but absolutely critical. No matter how good the topcoat, a spray finish is only ever as good as the surface underneath it. It’s one of the key differences between a professional respray and a DIY attempt — and it’s the reason our finishes look and last the way they do.

The during photos tell the story well: every appliance, worktop, floor, and wall surface carefully masked and protected with professional-grade paper and tape before a single drop of paint was sprayed. In a lived-in kitchen, this level of care and protection is non-negotiable.

The Colour: Little Greene Pea Green

With the cabinets properly prepared, Carla’s chosen colour could finally do what it was always meant to. She had selected Little Greene Pea Green — a wonderfully fresh, confident shade that sits in that joyful territory between grass green and apple green. It’s a colour with genuine personality: uplifting and characterful without being overwhelming, and one that brings real energy and life to a kitchen space.

Applied in a 10% sheen semi-matt finish, the colour has exactly the right quality — rich and even, with just enough sheen to feel premium and wipe-clean practical, but without any unwanted glare. Against the black granite worktops and the beautiful floral printed splashback behind the Stoves range cooker, the green sings. It’s a combination that feels genuinely individual — a kitchen that couldn’t belong to anyone but Carla.

A Kitchen Full of Character

What makes this project especially satisfying is how much personality the finished kitchen has. The curved island unit, the tall glazed display cabinets with their classic glazing bar detailing, the deep crown moulding running along the top of the wall units, the traditional plate rack — all of it now reads as a cohesive, considered whole, unified by the freshness of the Pea Green and the quality of the spray finish.

The colour is confident enough to be a statement, yet the classic cabinetry style keeps it rooted and timeless. It’s a kitchen that feels like it has always been this way — which is, of course, exactly the point.

Carla’s Reaction

Carla was overjoyed with the finished result. After the frustration of the unsuccessful DIY attempt, seeing her kitchen finally look exactly as she had always imagined it was a genuinely emotional moment. She got the colour she dreamed of, the finish she couldn’t achieve herself, and a kitchen that she can now be truly proud of — all without the expense of buying new cabinetry.
