Kitchen Respray in Wythenshawe, Manchester

Kitchen respray in Wythenshawe with MDF repairs, a School House White respray, new tiling and handles—saving around £12,000.

Lisa and Ben’s kitchen in the Royal Oak area of Wythenshawe, Manchester, had a solid layout and plenty of useful storage, but its appearance had become tired and dated. The vinyl covering on several doors was beginning to loosen and wrinkle, while the long handles, red splashback and grey patterned wallpaper made the room feel ready for an update.

Rather than replacing an otherwise functional kitchen, Lisa and Ben chose a complete professional refurbishment. The cabinetry was refinished in Farrow & Ball School House White with a 10% sheen, complemented by new tiling, modern handles and rich green walls.

Repairing the Existing MDF Doors

The kitchen doors and drawer fronts were carefully removed and transported to our Manchester factory, where the existing vinyl covering was heat-treated and stripped away as part of our proven preparation process.

Once the vinyl had been removed, we discovered an unexpected gap running around the recessed inner profile of the MDF doors. Every gap had to be carefully filled and smoothed before refinishing could begin.

The original handle holes were also filled and sanded flush, allowing the replacement handles to be fitted in new positions. This detailed preparation restored the MDF and created the smooth, consistent surface needed for a professional sprayed finish.

Professional Kitchen Respray in School House White

Following the repair work, every door and drawer front was thoroughly prepared, primed and professionally refinished at our Manchester factory. The chosen colour was Farrow & Ball School House White, finished with a subtle 10% sheen.

This soft off-white shade has transformed the cabinetry without feeling stark or clinical. It works beautifully with the existing dark worktops, creating a clean and timeless contrast while making the entire kitchen feel brighter and more spacious.

Back at the property, all fixed cabinetry and surrounding areas were carefully masked and prepared before being professionally resprayed to match.

New Tiling, Handles and Wall Colour

The tired red splashback and existing wall finishes were removed as part of the wider transformation. New white tiles were installed behind the hob and extractor, continuing along the main working areas to create a brighter, cleaner and more practical finish.

Once the spraying and clean-up had been completed, the doors and drawer fronts were reinstated and fitted with new handles. The shorter, repositioned handles give the cabinetry a more balanced and timeless appearance while adding a subtle touch of warmth.

The remaining untiled walls were then painted in a rich green reminiscent of Farrow & Ball Bancha. This confident colour choice adds depth and character, providing a striking contrast with the soft School House White cabinetry and white tiled walls.

A Complete Kitchen Transformation

The completed kitchen is worlds apart from the original space. The loose vinyl, oversized handles, red splashback and worn wallpaper have been replaced by beautifully refinished cabinetry, fresh tiling, elegant hardware and a sophisticated new colour palette.

Most importantly, the transformation allowed Lisa and Ben to retain their existing kitchen layout and cabinetry while achieving the appearance of a completely new kitchen. Including the respray and associated refurbishment work, they saved approximately £12,000 compared with the estimated cost of replacing the kitchen.
